  Thallus erect to subpendulous, usually 5 (rarely to 8) cm long, pale green or greenish yellow; branching at holdfast subdichotomous to irregular; trunk pale, rarely black; branches often conspicuously inflated and foveolate in places, 1.0–1.5 mm wide, constricted at basal joint; apices attenuate; without branchlets; fibrils sparse, long and curved, often 5 (rarely to 10) mm long; papillae mainly on secondary and tertiary branches, sparse to moderately dense. Isidia, pseudocyphellae and soralia absent. Cortex dull. Medulla arachnoid; axis 1/5–1/3 width of branch, hyaline. Apothecia numerous, terminal, 10–20 mm diam.; disc concave to plane; margin with a single row of sparse to moderately dense fibrils to 7 mm long; lower surface smooth or rarely papillate or slightly fibrillate. Ascospores 8.0–9.5 × 5.0–6.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Cortex containing usnic acid. Medulla K+ red or K–; containing salazinic acid (major), ±trace amounts of norstictic acid, consalazinic acid or galbinic acid.
     
  Occurs in forest in montane and subalpine areas of N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas.
